Healthmark has signed a sponsorship agreement with the Malta Medical Students’ Association
(MMSA), strengthening its commitment to investing in Malta’s future healthcare workforce and
supporting public health initiatives led by medical students.

Through this new partnership, Healthmark becomes one of MMSA’s key sponsors for the
2025–2026 term. The collaboration will support MMSA’s educational programmes, awareness

Founded in 1951, MMSA is a non-governmental, non-political organisation representing medical

The talk will be led by Roslynn Vella, Chief Operations Officer at Hospice Malta and a long-standing social policy expert. With both professional and personal experience – her own mother was diagnosed with early-onset dementia – Roslynn will break down how care services work in Malta, how to find support and what practical steps families can take when navigating complex situations.

The second session, “How To Make Your Home More Dementia Friendly”, will take place on 9th October at 5pm, also at Healthmark Academy in San Ġwann. It will be delivered by Alexia Mercieca, an architect and academic specialising in dementia-friendly design. 

Drawing from her research at the University of Edinburgh, Alexia will share smart, accessible ways to improve quality of life at home, whether you’re supporting someone with dementia or simply planning ahead.

Both sessions are free to attend and open to the public.

How will artificial-intelligence companions transform the care of older persons? How do other countries keep their ageing population active and healthy? And how can we make sure our human rights are safeguarded even as we age in Malta?

These are some of the topics that will be discussed at a landmark national conference on 28 November, organised by the International Institute on Ageing United Nations – Malta (INIA), and Healthmark, a private healthcare company.

As Malta’s population continues to age rapidly, safeguarding the rights of older persons has come to the forefront of national discussions. This event will focus on how technological advancements and policies promoting active and healthy ageing, can protect the human rights of older persons in Malta and beyond.

AI senior companions, a concept gaining traction in the care of older persons, will be explored in a keynote speech by Prof. Alexiei Dingli, AI expert from the University of Malta. His address will delve into how AI can provide support, companionship, and assistance to older persons, improving their well-being and independence without replacing human interactions.

Meanwhile, Lisa Warth, Chief of the Population Unit at the United Nations Economic Commission for Europe (UNECE), will share her insights with international perspectives of active and healthy ageing. With a wealth of experience in policy dialogue on demographic change, Lisa will discuss global best practices that promote active ageing, drawing from her work at UNECE and the World Health Organization (WHO).

Also giving a keynote speech at the conference is Dr. Mark-Anthony Vassallo, Consultant Geriatrician at the Ministry for Health and Active Ageing, who will address the medical aspects of safeguarding the rights and wellbeing of older persons in Malta.

This collaboration marks a significant step forward in the collective efforts to improve the lives of individuals living with dementia and their caregivers.

With a dedicated workforce of over 3,500 healthcare professionals, including nurses, and care assistants, Healthmark has consistently delivered exceptional services to Malta’s hospitals, clinics, nursing homes, and private clients.
